PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — A body recovered from the Deschutes River has been identified as that of a 21-year-old Portland-area man who disappeared after jumping into the river to cool off on June 27.

The Oregon state medical examiner’s office has identified the body as Christopher O’Day.

The Wasco County sheriff’s office says O’Day was reported missing in the river a few miles north of Maupin. His body was found Sept. 6.

Sheriff’s officers say O’Day had been drinking on the riverbank with three friends when he and one friend decided to jump in the water. The friend made it back to the bank despite the fast-moving current but O’Day did not.
