Published: September 15, 2010, 12:00am

Who: Jamie Manriquez.

Neighborhood association: Landover-Sharmel.

Neighborhood location: East Clark County. South of 18th Street.

Position: Chairman.

Tenure: Since January.

Lived in Neighborhood: Four years.

Outside Job: Air Force.

What he likes best about the neighborhood: Manriquez said he likes the community feeling in his neighborhood and said neighbors watch out for one another. He said he feels safe letting his kids play in the front yard.

The biggest challenge facing the neighborhood: Manriquez said he is concerned with the city’s relationship with residents of his neighborhood and neighborhood association officials. Communication “doesn’t mean just giving three minutes (to speak).” Manriquez said there is a disconnect between the city and many residents because they aren’t coming together to have a healthy discussion. He said he would like the city to invest more into his neighborhood park sometime in the future. According to a recent neighborhood newsletter, the city plans to develop a master plan for the park in January.

Listen up: “The City of Vancouver should take care of what they’ve got before taking care of the future. The east side is building quick — progress is great — but neighborhoods are getting boisterous.”
