NEW YORK (AP) — The National Weather Service has determined that two tornadoes ripped through New York City during a fast-moving storm, along with a fierce microburst with speeds up to 125 miles per hour.

Authorities made the ruling Friday after examining the path of the storm and the damage left in its wake.

Officials said the tornadoes left a path of destruction for 14 miles from Brooklyn to Queens. One person was killed.

The city estimates more than 1,000 trees were destroyed and dozens of buildings damaged.

It is the ninth tornado to hit New York City since 1950, and the second this year.
