LAUSANNE, Switzerland (AP) — The International Gymnastics Federation has warned the United States and Ukraine federations for failing to ensure their athletes stuck to anti-doping rules.

The FIG says it issued “strong written warnings” because U.S. artistic gymnast Alicia Sacramone and Ukraine rhythmic gymnast Natalia Godunko returned to competition without their federations giving six months notice for drug testing.

Sacramone and Godunko have been cleared to compete in their world championships after undergoing doping controls.

The FIG says it made exceptions “to protect these two world-class gymnasts from the negligence of their federations.”

The rhythmic worlds start on Sunday in Moscow, and the artistic worlds are next month in Rotterdam, the Netherlands.
