Applications are being taken by Clark County commissioners for an open seat on the Fort Vancouver Regional Library District board of trustees.

In December, Karen Peterson will complete her seven-year board term, and nine years total on the board.

Her vacant seat is open only to Clark County residents who do not live within Vancouver or Camas city limits.

The seven-member board, which oversees the 13-branch library system serving Clark, Skamania and Klickitat counties and a portion of Cowlitz County, has designated slots.

Three of the trustees must come from within Clark County, but outside Vancouver. (Camas has its own community library). One slot each goes to Skamania and Klickitat residents; Vancouver residents get the other two slots.

For this vacancy, an appointee voted by Clark County commissioners also requires approval by the Skamania and Klickitat county commissioners.

Applicants should be prepared to complete a full seven-year term, beginning in January. The board meets monthly, at revolving locations that range from Woodland to Goldendale.

Interested residents should submit a letter of interest and résumé by 5 p.m. on Oct. 26 to: Jennifer Clark, Clark County Board of Commissioners office, P.O. Box 5000, Vancouver, WA 98666-5000.

Commissioners also will accept applications by fax, at 360-397-6058, and by e-mail: jennifer.clark@clark.wa.gov.

Applicants should discuss personal understanding of challenges in library board service; and issues regarding public library services, facilities and all library materials, and library district funding.
