WOODBURY, N.Y. (AP) — Authorities say a minivan carrying members from a church has crashed on the New York State Thruway, killing at least six people and injuring eight others.

Thruway spokesman Guy Hulbert says 14 people were traveling in the van when it crashed Saturday afternoon on the northbound side of Interstate 87 in Woodbury, about 55 miles north of New York City.

Hulbert could not say which church the passengers belonged to, and he could not confirm earlier reports that the van collided with a tractor-trailer.

Eight injured passengers were taken to hospitals.

A spokeswoman for Good Samaritan Hospital in Suffern says two women are in critical condition and two others are still being assessed. A spokesman for Westchester Medical Center in Valhalla says information on the conditions of the other four passengers isn’t immediately available.
