Illinois State defeats South Dakota State 24-14

BROOKINGS, S.D. (AP) — Ashton Leggett ran for 100 yards and a touchdown Saturday night as Illinois State defeated South Dakota State 24-14.

The Redbirds (2-1) jumped to a 24-0 lead in the Missouri Valley Conference opener for both teams.

Matt Brown threw touchdown passes to Tyrone Walker and Marvon Sanders for Illinois State. Brown finished 20 of 29 for 177 yards.

The Jackrabbits (0-2), who play at No. 8 Nebraska next week, scored twice in the fourth quarter on Tyler Duffy’s 3-yard run and a 5-yard pass from Thomas O’Brien to Brandon Hubert. O’Brien was 24 of 42 for 245 yards and two interceptions, and Kyle Minett ran for 120 yards for South Dakota State.
