Rhode Island beats New Hampshire 28-25 on late TD

KINGSTON, R.I. (AP) — James Timmins returned a fumble 39 yards with 2:23 left to give Rhode Island a 28-25 win over New Hampshire on Saturday.

The Rams (1-2, 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association) trailed 18-13 entering the fourth quarter and pulled within 25-21 with 2:23 left in their first win over the Wildcats since 2003.

Victor Adesanya sacked New Hampshire quarterback R.J. Toman, allowing Timmins to run in the winning score.

Then on the Wildcats’ final drive, Toman’s pass on third-and-11 from the Rhode Island 42 was intercepted by Matt Urban.

Steve Probst rushed for 98 yards and a touchdown on 17 carries and had 78 yards and a touchdown on 15-for-28 passing. Ayo Isijola also had 98 yards on 14 carries for Rhode Island.

Terrance Fox had a career-high 11 catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns for New Hampshire (1-2, 0-1).
