VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) — Villanova quarterback Chris Whitney threw two touchdown passes and ran for two more as the Wildcats defeated Towson 43-7 in the teams’ Colonial Athletic Association opener on Saturday.

The Villanova defense put the Wildcats (2-1) on the board early with a first-quarter safety, which was followed by a 9-yard touchdown run by Whitney.

Whitney threw touchdown passes of 22 and 17 yards to Dorian Wells and Angelo Babbaro, respectively, as Villanova scored 27 second-quarter points and led 36-0 at halftime.

The Wildcats extended their lead to 43-0 after Whitney’s second rushing touchdown, a 1-yarder in the third quarter.

Towson (1-2) managed only 180 total yards of offense and was outrushed by 226 yards.

A 59-yard touchdown pass from Bart Blanchard to Hakeem Moore put the Tigers on the board with 9:36 remaining in the third quarter.
