Police Monday night were looking for a man who robbed a gas station/convenience store, ran off with money and escaped on a motorcycle.

The robber reached into the till, took money and fled, breaking a door on his way out.

The robbery occurred about 3:45 p.m. Monday at the Shell Kwik Gas, 7204 N.E. Fourth Plain Blvd., near Auto Mall Drive.

He ran for a block, cutting through the parking lots of auto dealers, and then got on a motorcycle parked next to Barnes & Noble Booksellers, 7700 N.E. Fourth Plain, said Officer Ilia Botvinnik with the Vancouver Police Department.

The robber took off at a high rate of speed, Botvinnik said.

“Nobody could catch up,” Botvinnik said. “He was running red lights.” The chase ended after police lost sight of the motorcyclist.

He is described as a white man with brown hair in his 20s, perhaps 6 foot 3 inches tall, who was wearing a black helmet, black motorcycle jacket and black jeans.

The man was headed eastbound on Fourth Plain, Botvinnik said.

The motorcycle appeared to be a late 1990s or early 2000 model and was dark colored. “It’s not a motorcycle that stands out,” Botvinnik said.
