PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — The minimum wage is going up by 10 cents an hour next year in Oregon.
State Labor Commissioner Brad Avakian announced Monday the Oregon minimum wage will rise to $8.50 per hour in January.
Oregon voters approved a ballot measure in 2002 that requires a minimum wage adjustment each year based on changes in inflation measured by the Consumer Price Index.
Oregon and Washington state are among 10 states that adjust the minimum wage based on the index. Washington is expected to announce its next adjustment on Sept. 30.
Avakian says the increase is critical to helping the Oregon economy recover and prevent the lowest wage earners from falling behind inflation.
