LOME, Togo (AP) — Togo’s soccer federation says former coach Tchanile Bana was responsible for taking a fake national team to an exhibition against Bahrain and has banned him for three years.

In a statement Monday, the federation said “the organization, preparation and supervision of the match were planned by Tchanile Bana.”

The team made up of unidentified players lost 3-0 in the Sept. 7 game.

Bana, who was Togo’s coach in 2000 and 2004, had already been suspended for two years for taking players to Egypt without permission.

A member of the disciplinary commission investigating the affair says more officials will also face sanctions.

Antoine Folly says “full light must be thrown on the Bahrain affair in order to unmask and impose sanctions on his (Bana’s) accomplices.”
