JOINT BASE LEWIS-MCCHORD, Wash. (AP) — About 150 soldiers are scheduled to return late Tuesday night to Joint Base Lewis-McChord after nearly a year in Afghanistan.

A reunion ceremony with families is scheduled for 1:30 a.m. Wednesday at Soldiers Field House.

An Army spokeswoman says the members of the 5th Battalion, 3rd Field Artillery Regiment largely helped with security — controlling detainees and clearing roads of homemade bombs.

About 100 other soldiers in the group who deployed to Afghanistan last October are due to return in coming weeks.
