PROVO, Utah (AP) — BYU says quarterback Riley Nelson is done for the season because of an injury to his right shoulder.

Coach Bronco Mendenhall said in a release Tuesday that Nelson will need surgery on his non-throwing shoulder and be out four to five months. Nelson injured his shoulder in BYU’s 34-10 loss at Florida State.

Nelson started the first three games this season and shared time with freshman Jake Heaps, who is now the Cougars’ most experienced QB.

Nelson says he’s getting the injury taken care of as soon as possible and getting moving on his recovery.

BYU (1-2) is at home Saturday against Nevada.
