OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The Department of Natural Resources has lifted the burn-ban on state-protected lands in Washington.

The department said Tuesday that recent rains and a forecast for more allowed the ban to be lifted before it expired at the end of the month.

Lands Commissioner Peter Goldmark ordered the burn ban on July 15.

The department is responsible for preventing and fighting wildfires on nearly 13 million acres of state, tribal and private lands in Washington. The department has more than 700 employees who also fight fires and nearly 400 seasonal firefighters.
