Clark County sheriff’s deputies, starting about 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, dealt with an alleged drunken driver who crashed a car into the rear of a woman’s SUV near Northeast 78th Street and Andresen Road and fled the scene — with witnesses following him.

“He hit her and took off, but his wheel fell off because of the damage,” said Sgt. Tony Barnes with the Clark County Sheriff’s Office. “A bunch of people kind of surrounded him so he couldn’t go anywhere.”

Barnes added: “He was very intoxicated and said he didn’t remember doing it.”

No one was reported injured. The driver, 26-year-old Lewis Depew of Vancouver, was arrested on suspicion of DUI and hit-and-run driving, and for two previously issued misdemeanor warrants, Barnes said.

After being hit from behind, the other driver stayed at the scene while several witnesses followed Depew in their vehicles, Barnes said.
