KENT, Wash. (AP) — Firefighters watched with hoses at the ready as workers drilled into an overturned tanker truck to pump out 10,000 gallons of gasoline.

There was no fire, and no one was hurt in a three-truck crash Tuesday night on Interstate 5 at Kent, but as much as 900 gallons of diesel spilled from another tank.

The accident response and cleanup by the Washington State Patrol, state Transportation Department, Kent Fire Department and others blocked the southbound lanes nearly 12 hours. They finally reopened at 9:45 a.m. Wednesday.

Transportation Department spokesman Patrick Conrad says northbound lanes also were blocked for a time by a crash at the scene, and traffic in both directions backed up for miles in the morning commute.
