WALLA WALLA, Wash. (AP) — The giant purple octopus mural painted on the front of a downtown Walla Walla toy store has its fans.

The Walla Walla Union-Bulletin reports some residents told a city council hearing Wednesday it gives the city character.

The city says others have complained about the mural that was painted over the Labor Day weekend at the Inland Octopus toy store. Owner Bob Catsiff calls it art.

The city says it’s a violation of the sign code. The council met in private to consider enforcement action but made no decision.
