SALEM, Ore. (AP) — A car hit three students in a Salem crosswalk, killing two of the teens and leaving the third in critical condition.
The Statesman Journal reports the students were leaving Chemeketa Community College on Thursday afternoon when they were hit by an SUV.
Cmdr. Kevin Schultz says a 16-year-old boy died at the scene, an 18-year-old woman died after she was taken to Legacy Emanuel Hospital in Portland, and an 18-year-old man had surgery at a Salem hospital.
Schultz said the driver, 29-year-old Sophia Downing of Salem, was arrested. She’s facing charges of manslaughter, assault and driving under the influence.
