VANCOUVER — United Grain Corp., exporter of grain products at the Port of Vancouver, is asking Vancouver city officials to approve development permits for a planned expansion of its facilities.

Tony Flagg, president and CEO of the company — a subsidiary of Mitsui Group, a Japanese conglomerate — said this week United Grain has not yet decided whether to do the project but wants to avoid delays by starting the permitting process now.

The city is taking written public comments on the proposal until 4 p.m. Monday, Sept. 27. The project includes construction of new grain storage and shipping silos. Flagg said the project would enable United Grain to load wheat onto larger ships and to add corn and beans to the commodities it handles.
