Road reopens after gas leak response

A stretch of East McLoughlin Boulevard has reopened after response to a gas leak triggered its closure.

The road was closed shortly after 10 a.m. from from North Grand Boulevard to East 11th Street after contractors digging a sewer line ruptured a gas line.

One residence was evacuated. Occupants at seven other impacted residences weren’t home, said Jim Flaherty, a Vancouver Fire Department spokesman.

NW Natural and Clark Public Utilities are on scene and have shut off gas and power, Flaherty said. The utilities, though, should soon be turned back on. Firefighters successfully ventilated units that drew some of the leaking gas.

Flaherty said crews working in the area nicked the gas line and then covered it with dirt, and the gas migrated into at least one duplex.
