Two cars totaled in arson

An overnight fire that destroyed two cars was an apparent arson, according to the Vancouver Fire Department.

Two cars, a 1998 four-door Mercedes and a 2005 Ford van, were totaled, said Jim Flaherty, a fire spokesman. The damage to the vehicles was estimated at $14,000.

The fire was reported at 1:52 a.m. at a business complex in the 3300 block of N.E. 112th Avenue. Flaherty said firefighters quickly gained control of what he described as a “stubborn fire.”

“They had to cut the hood of the Mercedes to get to the fire in the engine,” he said.

The Vancouver Fire Arson team is investigating, Flaherty said.
