OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Attorney General Rob McKenna has settled a campaign-finance lawsuit against a conservative construction-industry group.

McKenna, a Republican, announced the settlement Friday. It calls for the Building Industry Association of Washington to pay $242,000 in fines and $50,000 in attorney’s fees.

Another $342,000 in fines will be due if the BIAW commits any similar legal violations through 2016.

The case stemmed from the 2008 governor’s race. Regulators found evidence that a BIAW subsidiary improperly concealed its role in bundling about $585,000 in workers compensation refunds for the BIAW’s political arm.

BIAW spokeswoman Erin Shannon says the group still doesn’t think it did anything wrong, but they’re glad the case is over.
