McCoy’s runs lead Duquesne over Albany (NY) 28-17

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Larry McCoy ran for 123 yards and two touchdowns and Sean Patterson threw for 242 yards and a score as Duquesne opened Northeast Conference play with a 28-17 win over Albany (N.Y.) on Saturday.

McCoy, who carried 29 times for the Dukes (3-1), took a fourth-and-1 handoff 25 yards for the game’s first score. The drive started at the 34 of the Great Danes (1-2) after a fumble recovery.

McCoy also scored from the 1 to make it 28-14 with 10:41 left in the third quarter. The Dukes started at the Albany 46 after an interception and got passes of 26 and 18 yards from Patterson to Connor Dixon.

Drew Smith led the Great Danes with 92 yards on 27 carries, including two 3-yard touchdowns. The second came after Albany recovered a blocked punt at the Duquesne 9-yard line 1:48 before halftime.

The win was Duquesne’s first in four tries against Albany.
