DALLAS (AP) — Dirk Nowitzki would have listened had LeBron James or Dwyane Wade asked him to join them in Miami.

Since they didn’t, he never seriously considered leaving the Dallas Mavericks.

Nowitzki opens his 13th training camp with the Mavs on Tuesday as the most accomplished player in franchise history. However, there was a bit of drama this summer as he hit the open market for the first time.

Then he looked around and decided, “This is where my heart is.”

The Mavericks have won at least 50 games in 10 straight seasons, but have yet to win a championship. Nowitzki has gotten them to the finals and been the league’s MVP and often says the only thing he cares about any more is winning a title.
