A Vancouver man was sentenced on Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Portland to 10 years in prison after he pleaded guilty to one count of interstate travel with the intent to have sex with minors.

Nathaniel Juhl, 28, also received five years of supervised release beginning at the end of his prison term.

In May 2006, Juhl started chatting online with FBI agents posing as teenage girls.

Juhl invited what he thought were girls ages 13 and 14 to meet him at the Sunset Transition Station in Beaverton, Ore., in October 2006, planning to take them back to his Vancouver home for “sexual activity,” according to a bulletin issued by the U.S. Department of Justice.

Instead, he was taken into custody by federal agents. A search of his personal computer turned up more than 800 images of child pornography, the bulletin said.

Juhl was arrested most recently in April 2009 in Kingman, Ariz., months after he failed to show for a court appearance. Juhl, a construction worker by trade, was working at the time for a traveling carnival.

He has been in custody since his 2009 arrest.

Juhl was brought to trial as part of Project Safe Childhood, a DOJ-led effort to “protect children from online exploitation and abuse.” The case was investigated by the FBI and the Beaverton Police Department.
