BOSTON (AP) — Boston College is keeping its new quarterback a secret heading into the Notre Dame game.

Coach Frank Spaziani denied a report on Wednesday that freshman Chase Rettig has been chosen to make his debut against the Fighting Irish on Saturday night.

Dave Shinskie was pulled from last week’s shutout loss to Virginia Tech. Spaziani said Rettig and Mike Marscovetra would compete for the job.

The Boston Globe cited sources it didn’t identify in reporting Rettig was the choice over Marscovetra. Spaziani said: “That hasn’t been announced. We don’t know who we’re going with yet.”
