Mazamas slate open house

PORTLAND —The Mazamas, a Portland-based mountaineering group, will host a “discovery night’’ beginning at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 18 at their headquarters, 527 S.E. 43rd Ave.

A multi-media show, raffles, free pizza, a no-host bar, and more are scheduled. Information about conservation, mountain climbing, first aid, cross-country skiing and hiking will be available.

Help needed to finish trail

SKAMANIA — Volunteers are need on Oct. 7 to help complete a new hiking and equestrian trail in Beacon Rock State Park.

The work party is organized by the Washington Trails Association. No experience is needed. Tools and instruction are provided.

Commission meets Friday

OLYMPIA — Briefings on Columbia River spring and summer chinook fisheries will be presented Friday to the Washington Fish and Wildlife Commission.

The nine-member panel will meet beginning at 8:30 a.m. in Room No. 172 of the Natural Resources Building, 1111 Washington St. S.E.

The Columbia River salmon briefings are on the agenda for after 2 p.m.

The commission also will meet starting at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

Wildlife League meets Wednesday

The Vancouver Wildlife League will meet at 7 p.m. Wednesday at the state Department of Fish and Wildlife, 2108 Grand Blvd.

Lisa Beranek, stream team coordinator for Clark Public Utilities, will discuss salmon restoration efforts in Salmon Creek.

The public is welcome.
