KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Evan Longoria was held of the Tampa Bay Rays lineup for a seventh straight game because of a strained left quadriceps.

Thursday night’s series opener against the Kansas City Royals was another game Longoria missed since he was injured making a defensive play Sept. 23 at New York.

With the Rays having already clinched a postseason berth, manager Joe Maddon said he is getting the All-Star ready for the playoffs and that could mean Longoria missing all of this weekend’s games.

Longoria is hitting .294 with 22 home runs, 46 doubles and 104 RBIs in 151 games.

Ben Zobrist replaced Longoria at third base on Thursday.
