SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) — The Spokane County sheriff said the shooting of a pregnant woman by a Washington State Patrol detective was an accident.

Sheriff Ozzie Knezovich said Thursday that Detective Lee Stemp’s weapon accidentally discharged during a struggle with the woman as she tried to escape through an apartment window during a drug raid last week.

The woman, whose name has not been released, was 39 weeks pregnant and labor was induced at a Spokane hospital. She suffered non-life threatening injuries in the shooting.
