SEATTLE (AP) — Thursday is University of Washington President Mark Emmert’s last day as leader of his alma mater.
Emmert is moving on to a new job as president of the National Collegiate Athletic Association.
The Seattle Times says that by most accounts, his six-year tenure at the UW was hugely successful.
UW’s prestige rose in national rankings. The football team stayed away from scandals. An record-breaking fundraising campaign brought in $2.7 billion. And UW students who couldn’t afford college were given the Husky Promise, a scholarship program that now pays full tuition and fees for one-quarter of the university’s students. And faculty members say he filled empty slots at the university with top leaders.
