SEATTLE (AP) — A Bellevue science teacher faces child rape and other charges after police say they caught him naked in his Honda Civic with a 16-year-old girl.
King County prosecutors charged 31-year-old Tillicum Middle School teacher Matthew J. Jones on Friday with third-degree rape of a child, child molestation and sexual misconduct with a minor. He’s expected to be arraigned April 14.
Investigators say that two Bellevue police officers on patrol in Lattawood Park happened upon Jones and the girl engaging in sexual activity in his car. Court papers say the girl is now a high school sophomore, but was Jones’ student in seventh and eighth grade.
Prosecutors say the sexual relationship began when the girl was 15. She told detectives that she would sneak out of her house to rendezvous with Jones at the park.
