La Center man dies in traffic accident near Cougar

A La Center man died Saturday night when he crashed his 2009 Dodge Challenger near the town of Cougar in Cowlitz County.

Neil M. Crocker, 63, was westbound about 8:40 p.m. on state Highway 503. He was traveling at a high rate of speed, according to a Washington State Patrol report. Crocker’s vehicle left the road to the right, ran onto an embankment, hit a utility pole and the continued on the embankment, coming to rest on its nose in a ditch.

Both Crocker and his passenger were ejected. The accident happened about one mile east of Cougar.

Passenger William J. Quigley, 25, of Vancouver suffered head lacerations and other possible injuries and was taken to Southwest Washington Medical Center. He was treated and released.

The Challenger was totaled, the patrol said. Cause of the accident was speeding, the report said.
