NEW YORK (AP) — A light trading day on Wall Street is closing with slight gains for major stock indexes.

In company news, Southwest Airlines fell nearly 2 percent as the carrier continued to inspect its planes after the fuselage of one jet ripped open Friday. Pfizer rose nearly 1 percent after it said it will sell one of its units to a private equity firm.

At the market close, the Dow Jones industrial average is up 23 points, or 0.2 percent, to 12,400. The S&P 500 is up less than a point to 1,333. The Nasdaq composite is down less than a point to 2,789.

Rising and falling shares were about even on the New York Stock Exchange. Consolidated volume came to 3.3 billion shares.
