OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — The Washington Supreme Court has halted an effort to recall the Coulee City mayor.

Mayor Rick Heiberg told the Wenatchee World he’s ecstatic with Friday’s ruling.

Former Councilwoman Jennifer Schwartz led the recall effort. She says she won’t take the ruling as bad news until she reads the court’s opinion.

A Supreme Court spokeswoman says justices may need up to six months to issue their written opinion.

Heiberg was elected in November 2009. He clashed with members of the city council, some city staff and Schwartz, who alleged that Heiberg was abusing his authority and not following proper city procedures.

A Grant County judge allowed the recall campaign on claims that Heiberg violated procedures for spending city money on a new truck and for destroying city documents.
