EUGENE, Ore. (AP) — An Oregon man charged with aggravated murder for his role in the torture death of his 15-year-old stepdaughter is scheduled for a hearing that may signal a plea deal in the case.
The Register-Guard reports that 41-year-old Richard McAnulty is set to appear in Lane County Circuit Court in Eugene at 2:30 p.m. Monday.
Lane County District Attorney Alex Gardner announced last week the hearing should be “substantive” without giving details, and that a news conference was expected afterward — suggesting a plea agreement may have been reached.
McAnulty’s wife, Angela McAnulty, was sentenced to death after she pleaded guilty to aggravated murder in the December 2009 death of her 15-year-old daughter, Jeanette Maples.
The trial of Richard McAnulty is set for May. He has pleaded not guilty.
