WASHINGTON (AP) — Honduras or the United States? Andy Najar is ready to announce his decision.

Last year’s MLS rookie of the year will reveal which country he plans to represent in international play at a news conference Tuesday.

The 18-year-old D.C. United midfielder went to high school in Virginia, has a green card and will eventually be eligible for U.S. citizenship. But he is from Honduras, and fans in the Central American country have been outspoken in their concern that they could lose him to the Americans.

Najar’s agent, Chris Megaloudis, says Najar “feels he is at a stage in his career where he is prepared to make the leap to international football.” He says Najar has spent “many months” mulling over the choice of which country to represent.
