LONDON (AP) — Wayne Rooney is no longer being sponsored by Coca-Cola after the Manchester United striker was initially dropped following allegations over his private life.

Rooney was the face of the Coke Zero soft drink, with his face appearing on cans and bottles until reports emerged last September that he cheated on his then-pregnant wife with a prostitute.

Coca-Cola says in a statement that “our contract with Wayne Rooney came to an end last year and we mutually agreed that we would not renew our relationship.”

The world’s largest soft drink maker announced in October that the lurid allegations meant it wasn’t “appropriate” to use Rooney in promotions.

The England international has endorsed Coke Zero since 2007.
