Letter: Light rail is not right for downtown

Bob and Gillkian Wallis purchased the old Lucky Lager warehouse in downtown Vancouver, as reported in the March 24 story, “Brewing with Historic Significance: Lucky Lager logo distinguishes building.” They have spent money on it to convert it into a host for professional tenants, along with painting the Lucky Lager logo on the side of the building. This is good for the downtown area.

Now, since light rail is supposed to be coming to town, even if we don’t want it, the building and some surrounding grounds could be used for a parking structure for light rail. We do not need that. You can drive one mile south, where light rail should end, and use the park-and-ride there or C-Tran will take you there.

Light rail will not work as well as C-Tran and it will cost us way too much money. Light rail is not the answer for downtown Vancouver; it will bring what we don’t want.
