Letter: Voting record follows party line

The Columbian
Published: April 5, 2011, 12:00am

How is our new Republican Rep. Jaime Herrera Beutler, R-Camas, shaping up in her voting record in Congress? Let’s see. According to the Washington, D.C., Roll Call in The Columbian on March 20, here is what she has been up to.

Voting yes to pass the stopgap budget that slashes dozens of domestic programs and jobs that many people depend on. Yes to repealing the Neighborhood Stabilization Program that helps keep our neighborhoods intact during this crisis. Yes to ending funding for NPR, a public service radio company that millions trust for their news and entertainment.

Voting no on the Medicare and Social Security protection motion. No to the Rural Funding Priority to help our rural areas weather this crisis. No to a measure to bring U.S. troops home from Afghanistan by year’s end. No to assuring funding critical for the AMBER Alert System.

Looks like Herrera Beutler is voting lockstep with the Republican leaders to tear down America and make it corporate-friendly. Is this what we voted for? And by the way, where are the jobs we were promised, Jaime?
