WASHINGTON (AP) — The Library of Congress will preserve a recording of “Take Me Out to the Ball-game,” a 1908 tune that became the anthem for America’s favorite pastime.

The library is announcing Wednesday the 25 recordings selected this year for the National Recordings Registry on the basis of cultural significance.

They include the 1968 Tammy Wynette country song that infuriated some women with the message, “Stand By Your Man.” Also on the list are the first recording of contemporary stand-up comedy and tapes from the conservative political group GOPAC that laid out a strategy and message for Republican candidates between 1986 and 1994.

Librarian of Congress James Billington says the additions document history, entertainment and artistic expression.

Congress created the recording registry in 2000 to ensure significant audio recordings aren’t lost.
