ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Michael Young has made his first career start at first base for the Texas Rangers.
The start at first Tuesday night against Seattle came in Young’s 1,513th career game. He was the designated hitter the night before when he matched Jim Sundberg for the second-most games played in team history behind Rafael Palmeiro’s 1,573.
With the acquisition of All-Star third baseman Adrian Beltre this winter, Young became the primary DH who can play all the infield spots. Young played second base for the first time since 2003 in Sunday’s game, and was the DH the other three games.
Young, the longest-tenured Ranger in his 11th season, is already the team’s career hits leader.
