Clemens: Committee, firm must turn over evidence

WASHINGTON (AP) — Baseball great Roger Clemens is arguing that a congressional committee and law firm have no right to withhold evidence from his criminal trial on allegations that he lied about using performance-enhancing drugs.

Clemens filed arguments with the U.S. District Court in Washington on Wednesday night asking the judge in his case to require the production of evidence from the law firm that investigated drugs for Major League Baseball and a House committee that held hearings on that report. Clemens has been charged with perjury for testifying that he didn’t use steroids or human growth hormone.

The committee wants to quash his subpoena for evidence under the separation of powers doctrine regarding the legislative and judicial branches. The law firm argues that its evidence is protected by attorney-client privilege.
