OLYMPIA, Wash. (AP) — Dozens of demonstrators have rolled out sleeping bags inside the Washington state Capitol to protest budget cuts.

The people are part of a coalition of community groups pushing for lawmakers to end tax breaks for certain industries and services, such as for cosmetic surgeries.

They arrived in Olympia Wednesday afternoon and marched outside the Capitol, set up camp inside, demonstrated at a budget committee hearing and chanted during a Senate floor voting session.

Fatima Morales of Washington Community Action Network says people want lawmakers to end these tax breaks.

Wednesday’s rally is part of a week of actions in Olympia.

The crowd was boisterous at times, with their chants heard from inside the chambers while legislators voted.
