State paperwork slows part of hospital merger

PeaceHealth’s acquisition of a subsidiary of Southwest Washington Medical Center is on hold until the nonprofit submits new paperwork for review by state insurance regulators.

Peter Adler, senior vice president and chief strategy officer for PeaceHealth, said the nonprofit will resubmit a proposal to acquire Southwest subsidiary Columbia United Providers sometime in the next six months. The new proposal will be simpler, Adler said, and will better fit the review process used by state Insurance Commissioner Mike Kreidler.

Adler said it’s a minor process issue that does not affect the merger, and that there are no plans to change Columbia United Providers, which serves Medicaid patients.
