Portland — The Oregon Department of Environmental Quality has levied a $1,125 penalty against Vancouver-based Minority Abatement Contractors Inc. for failing to notify the DEQ before it began an asbestos abatement project in downtown Portland.
All licensed absestos abatement contractors are responsible for making sure the state receives all required notification forms and fees in a timely manner, the agency said Wednesday. Without this notification, DEQ is unable to inspect these projects to ensure they are done safely and in compliance with regulations.
Minority Abatement Contractors paid the penalty in full in March, according to DEQ.
