A Multnomah County Grand Jury indicted Parrish Bennette Jr. today on charges of first-degree murder with a firearm and first-degree manslaughter with a firearm.

Bennette, 16, is due back in juvenile court this afternoon at 4:30 p.m. to be arraigned on the indictment.

Portland police alleged Bennette killed 14-year-old Yashanee L. Vaughn on March 19. Her body has not been located.

Bennette was taken into custody March 28 on a probation violation. That came after his father expressed to police concerns his son might have been involved in Vaughn’s disappearance. Police searched the family’s home and discovered evidence linking Bennette to Vaughn’s death.

Volunteers have unsuccessfully searched Rocky Butte with cadaver-detecting dogs for Vaughn’s body. A $1,000 reward for information is offered for information that may lead investigators to Vaughn’s body. Crime Stoppers can be reached by calling (503) 823-HELP.
