Weekend events: High school rugby, lacrosse teams take to the fields

Rugby in the morning. Lacrosse in the evening.

Local high school teams will be in action today in two sports that have gained popularity in recent years.

At 10 a.m. at Laurin Middle School, the Vancouver Sharks and the Prairie Wolf Pack will clash in an Oregon Youth Rugby Division I match.

At 7 p.m. at Columbia River High School, the King’s Way Christian Knights take on Bainbridge Island in a Washington Boys High School Lacrosse Association match. King’s Way and Bainbridge are two of the top teams in Division I. This is the next to last regular-season home match for the Knights.

• All day today at Mountain View Ice Arena, the Portland Ice Skating Club is holding its SpringFest. Competition in youth and adult age groups will take place between 7:15 a.m. and 4 p.m., with top place-winners participating in exhibition performances between 6 and 8 p.m. The event is free for spectators. There are also several options for those looking to participate:

• The 2011 International Discovery Walk Festival takes place today at Hudson’s Bay High School, 1601 E. McLoughlin Blvd. Participants can choose among walks of 5 or 10 kilometers, bicycle rides of 15, 25, or 50 kilometers, or swimming opportunities.

Registration is open from 8 a.m. to noon. There is no charge to participate, except for optional medals or volkswalk credits. On the web: www.discoverywalk.org.

• Clark County Running Club is holding a 5-mile run at 10 a.m. today at Lacamas Lake Park. Meet at the main parking lot for Lacamas Lake Park on the east side of the Everett Street in Camas.
