Letter: Just say no to light rail and tolls

Published: April 9, 2011, 12:00am

I have a friend who is a long-time Gresham, Ore., resident who told me that light rail has brought gangs to that area. They ride for free because tickets seldom are checked. Riders often are on an “honor system.” So, if we get light rail to Vancouver, get ready for the gangs to expand their territory.

And if we get a toll, get ready for our economy to decline further. How many people will want to move here from Oregon if they have to pay a toll to go to work?

Who is making money from this new bridge idea? All of a sudden we must have a new one while in the worst economic crisis since 1929. We’ve already spent more studying this project than it costs to maintain the bridge for many years. Let’s stop this nonsense and the mounting debt we are bequeathing to generations to come.
