CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — A grand jury will hear the case against a former University of Virginia lacrosse player accused of killing his girlfriend who was member of the women’s team.

George Huguely is charged with first-degree murder in the May 3, 2010, slaying of 22-year-old Yeardley Love. After nine hours of testimony Monday, a judge in Charlottesville decided there was enough probable cause for the case to move forward.

The grand jury is expected to hear the case on April 18 and decide whether to indict Huguely on murder and five other charges.

Huguely’s said that he will show that Love’s death was unintentional.

Huguely is accused of kicking in the door of Love’s apartment and slamming her head into a wall. Huguely has been in jail since his arrest and did not attend the hearing.
